DIY Paper Clip “Boops” for Valentine’s Day + BONUS Free Printable DIY Valentine Notebooks

PLANITPRINT.ME
“Boop!” your friends and lovers with a DIY Paper Clip “Boop” on Valentine’s Day

Paper clips are an essential planner accessory. These paper clip “Boops” are easy to make and great to give as Valentines. This tutorial will show you how to make your own paper clip Boops to keep or share, and how to make your own mini notebook Valentines using a free printable (link below).

DIY PAPER CLIP VALENTINE BOOPS

An easy adornment to practical paperclips.

Materials and Supplies:

  • Medium-size craft pom poms (pink, red, and white)
  • Googly eyes, mixed sizes (pink, red, and black)
  • Felt (black or red)
  • Large paper clips
  • Craft glue
  • Scissors
  • Toothpick (optional, see PRO TIP below)

PLANITPRINT.ME

To Make the Pink “BOOP!” Boop:

  1. Using sticky craft glue (like Aleene’s Tacky Glue), glue two pink pupil googly eyes of the same size on the front side of a pink pom pom.
  2. Allow the eyes to set for 3 minutes.
  3. Apply a small dot of glue to the bottom of the pom pom and insert a large white paper clip. (See PRO TIP below).
  4. Pinch pom pom gently around paper clip and hold for a few seconds to secure.
  5. Allow the Boop to dry according to glue instructions.

To Make the White “Plan On Me” Boop:

  1. Use craft glue to glue a single medium sized googly eye on the front side of a white pom pom.
  2. Follow above steps 2-5 using a silver paper clip.

To Make the Red “Devil” Boop:

  1. Use craft glue to glue two red pupil googly eyes of the different sizes on the front side of a red pom pom.
  2. Let the eyes set for 5 minutes. While waiting . . .
  3. Cut two small triangle shapes from black or red felt to create horns. After 5 minutes . . .
  4. Part the top of the pom pom and use glue to insert horns. Gently pinch and hold each horn for a few seconds to secure. (See PRO TIP below).
  5. Let the horns set for 1 minute.
  6. Apply a small dot of glue to the bottom of the pom pom and insert a large white paper clip.
  7. Pinch pom pom gently around paper clip and hold for a few seconds to secure.
  8. Allow the Boop to dry completely according to glue instructions.
PLANITPRINT.ME
PRO TIP: Glue pom poms to the narrow end of the paper clip (left) and not on the wide end (right).

PRO TIPS: 1. Use a toothpick to part the pom pom fibers and make adding glue dots and inserting parts easier. 2. Make sure to insert the narrow end of the paper clip into the pom pom or else the paper clip won’t clip (see photo above)!

SUPPLY NOTES
These paper clip Boops are easy to make and very affordable. I was able to get all the supplies (minus glue) for my Valentine’s Boops from Dollar Tree US. I used Aleene’s Tacky Glue (gold bottle). If you can’t find red or pink paper clips — just use silver paper clips. “Who cares? So what?!

PLANITPRINT.ME
Add a Boop to a DIY Mini Notebook and give as Valentines!

DIY MINI NOTEBOOK VALENTINES

Make a bunch of paper clip Boops and give them away with mini notebooks as Valentines. This DIY uses a free printable notebook cover (link below). You can use any kind of paper as the filler paper.

PRO TIPS: 1. You can add as many pages as you want but make sure your stapler can securely punch each stack. 2. If your stapler arm isn’t long enough, open the arm and staple the books against a hard, damageable work surface (ex. wood block).

PLANITPRINT.ME
Experiment with different colored cover stock and filler paper.

Materials and Supplies:

  • printed covers (card stock weight), trimmed*
  • filler paper sheets (copier paper weight) measuring* 8.5″x2.75″ (I used 6 sheets per notebook for a total of 12 pages)
  • *Scissors
  • *Ruler
  • stapler/staples (staple surface, optional)
  • Boops
  1. Trim covers and filler sheets to size using scissors and ruler, or a paper cutter.
  2. Stack each notebook with an outer cover and filler paper.
  3. Staple the center and fold in half.
  4. Clip the end of each notebook with a Boop.
